As part of our grant through the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, and our efforts to develop congregational capacity to intentionally bridge worship and discipleship, we have invited Brandon Leis to join us for a workshop on music in worship.

As a part of our larger vision, this particular workshop will focus on how we integrate music into our weekly worship. Topics will include how and why we sing during worship, practical leadership skills, how to incorporate instruments and beginners into hymn singing, how to introduce new hymns, how to select and place hymns during worship and anything else you would like to discuss and explore. We will unpack and experiment with the materials of music and hymnody with an intentional posture of curiosity and play. We aim to leave this session with ideas we can trial over the next few months and follow-up with a second session in November. Please make sure to bring instruments with you.

Brief bio about our facilitator:

Brandon loves making music with people in a variety of community-based contexts. He grew up at Hillcrest and Wellesley Mennonite churches before pursuing a music degree at Wilfrid Laurier University. He plays more than 40 instruments (not all of them well!), and has been involved in planning and implementing over 1200 church services in a number of ecumenical faith settings over the last 30 years. He currently teaches in the Faculty of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University, serves as the Artistic Director of the Menno Singers, and is Music Director at Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church. Brandon lives in Kitchener with his wife and 3 children.
