Pastor Steve Schumm

Hi. I’ve been the pastor here at Hamilton Mennonite Church since 2005. That summer my wife Joni, our two basset hounds and I moved to downtown Hamilton so I could serve this congregation and she could pursue a doctoral degree in practical theology at the University of Toronto.

Before that we had lived in Philadelphia, PA and Princeton, NJ where Joni and I took turns studying and ministrering in various congregations.

I grew up outside of Tavistock Ontario, so the move to Hamilton was a return to Southern Ontario for me. For Joni, a native of Illinois, this has all been brand new.

My theological and ministerial training comes via Princeton Theological Seminary (Princeton, NJ), Associated Mennoniote Biblical Seminary (Elkhart, IN) and Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, VA). I love reading, classic movies, bird-watching and cherry cheesecake, among other things.
